Many Organizations in Nepal are establishing Telecentres in different names:
public internet access center (PIAP), village knowledge center,
infocenter, community technology center (CTC), community multimedia
center (CMC), multipurpose community telecentre (MCT), Common/Citizen
Service Centre (CSC), school-based telecentre, etc.Ultimate goal of all types
of Telecentres being the same, they vary in terms of Services offered,
hardware/Software they use,Business Plan they follow, human resource they use
to run the telecentres. Also different Organizations in Nepal are Establishing
telecentres in differnet parts of Nepal. However, they are not working in
Coordination with each other. As a result, there is a duplication. The
selection of location is not done very scientifically.
The need for the Telecentre Network is felt from the last couple of year where
the real Telecentre Operators from the Grassroots,Implementing Organizations
and the government starts to interact themselves. It is high time that a central
body comprising of all the stakeholders working for the Telecentre movement in
Nepal. This body should categorise and standarize the Telecentre. In other, the
mechanism must be created such that all the stakeholders:Implementing
organizations, Government, Grass root Community and Business Organizations talk
to each other for standarizing the Telecentre. This is just my idea. What do you
think?
